We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and exceptionally rare Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy Military Officers campaign desk and chair with documentation How rare is rare? The word rare is thrown about in the antiques industry an awful lot. I buy and sell Campaign furniture all year round, I have done so for longer than I can to remember, this desk comes complete with some very interesting paperwork which accurately dates it to when it was being used and where, the paperwork includes is as follows Original and copy letters of accommodation addressed to HMS Constance Hong Kong dated 7th September 1949 regarding Gunnery practices from the Commander of their lordship SGD Nigel J Abercrombie A letter of resignation from Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy AG Cochrane A letter dated 10th December 1955 From the commander in Chief to Lieutenant Commander AG Cochrane Royal Navy, this is a reply to the resignation letter and it is stamp signed SGD W J Lamb captian Confirmation reply dated 2nd July 1956 granting retirement after 16 year’s service Letter for dinner onboard HMS Victory 1 June 1977 including the guest list 20th May 1977 to Lieutenant Commander AG Cochrane 10 earls court gardens, it’s a nice letter thanking and confirming attendance to “the glorious first” dinner for the victory 24th November 1995 46 year reunion letter detailing a book gift from P.J Mead ex ships cook Various Castaway clubs paperwork And there you have it, an awful lot of very personal and original documents. There are also some photos and blue prints relating to some kind of renovation project which will be included as they came in the desk The desk itself is an original map drawer campaign desk, what that means is the top three drawers are actually one very large map drawer for full sized maps. It has the original patina all over which has nicely aged. The desk splits into three easy to move pieces and has stunning brass clips on top of the pedestal which lock them in place The chair is a period 1920s Chesterfield captains chair in leather, it has a coil sprung base which is the same as a Victorian Howard & Son’s sofa We have cleaned waxed and polished both pieces from top to bottom, we have left them totally original so the patina is preserved. I can have the leather all restored and hand dyed a lovely cigar brown and the timber all French polished and looking lovely should the new owner wish however the spirt and soul is in the pair as they sit, original.
