About the Item

Richly carved cabinet - dressing table in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Dated at the turn of the 18th / 19th century, made of walnut wood. This piece of furniture is the so-called "Stipo a bambocci" - a writing cabinet that was created during the Renaissance in Upper Italy and can be closed with a hatch. Characteristic features of stipo a bambocci are carved small chubby children's figurines or "putti", from Italian: "bambocci". Figurines decorate cornices, corners and recesses of cabinets. In some of the surviving examples, the bamboo figures correspond with each other. The furniture was full of small drawers hidden behind a folding flap. They were intended for storing old coins, jewels, documents or family jewelry. The earliest "a bambocci" furniture appeared around the mid-16th century in Northern Italy. The presented piece of furniture comes from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Two-element. The lower part in the form of a two-door cabinet. The door panels and the sides of the furniture are veneered with a patterned walnut veneer! The upper part - a secretary with a lot of small drawers, compartments and compartments located in non-obvious places! (We have not photographed all of them) The piece of furniture has a foldable decorative top protecting the interior of the cabinet, decorated with a beautiful walnut brush The whole is decorated with several dozen small, detailed sculptures of various figures and ornaments characteristic of the Renaissance style. Apart from its practicality (a large number of compartments), its relatively small size is an advantage. This piece of furniture is rare on the antique market - today there are very few original stipos and bambocci. This type of furniture at international auctions reaches dizzying prices.
