Nature Inspired Modern Organic Credenza Made from Sustainable River Rescued Wood

About the Item

Awa Kōpaka means glacier in te reo Māori. The Awa Kōpaka credenza was inspired by our observations of the organic forms of the glaciers on the West Coast of New Zealand. The credenza was designed by Richard Simpson during a three-day road trip down the West Coast, as we explored the Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers. Standing at the face of the glaciers we could see this enormous fissure of ice and we could hear it cracking & moving. You could see where it was carved out and the beautiful organic forms on the ice itself. Awa Kōpaka is expressing that form into a functional cabinet. It is a narrative about the movement of ice and how it continues to shape the landscape of New Zealand. The credenza is made from a matai tree rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless Tréology nametag and attached to the credenza, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature. The credenza has two hinged doors with an adjustable timber shelf behind each door and four dovetailed drawers on full extension soft close runners. The credenza is finished with hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life. Handmade in Christchurch, New Zealand. L 118” x D 23.6" x H 35.5" L 3000 mm x D 600mm x H800mm (cabinet height) 900mm (top slat height) Customization of dimensions, wood species and finish are available by request, and may be subject to an up-charge. By Tréology
    Located in Papanui, Christchurch
The Ebb & Flow credenza was inspired by our observations of an ocean worn cliff face on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. Our search for design inspiration took us on an adventure to the Truman Track - a walk through unspoiled subtropical forest where ancient native trees tower above thickets of vine and palms. The track emerges on a spectacular coastline with cliffs, caverns, and a waterfall that plummets straight onto a rock-strewn beach. The Ebb & Flow credenza is our representation of the powerful ocean forces that have shaped the natural landscape of New Zealand. The credenza is made from a matai tree (New Zealand native tree) rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless Tréology tag and attached to the credenza, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature.
