Haast Modern Ancient River Wood Credenza Aged Copper Base and Leather Handles

About the Item

The Haast credenza is made from ancient matai trees (a native timber of New Zealand) that have fallen naturally into rivers and preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them. We rescue these trees from the river and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless steel Tréology tag and attached to the credenza, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature. The front of the credenza is made from fragmented pieces of ancient matai river wood. The design is based on our abstract observation of the ridges and valley's that dissect the New Zealand wilderness landscape. The matai timber is finished with hand rubbed natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life. The steel base has an Aged Copper finish. The handles are hand cut leather with an Aged Copper clamp. The credenza has two hinged doors with an adjustable timber shelf behind each door and a central fold down door with a glass shelf and mirror back. Handmade in Christchurch, New Zealand. Measures: L 82.75” x D 21.75" x H 28.5" L 2100mm x W 550mm x H 725mm Customization of dimensions, wood species and finish are available by request. About Tréology Sustainability We rescue trees from rivers in the wilderness of New Zealand and craft them into beautiful objects that merge the line between luxury furniture & functional art. We love connecting people to nature through our sustainable wood. Heritage Our company is built on our 150-year family heritage of luxury craftsmanship. We love collaborating with like-minded people who share our values of guardianship, sustainability and craftsmanship. Craftmanship Craftsmanship is a quality that defines a Tréology piece. Our artisan furniture-makers apply skills that have accumulated over a career of crafting natural materials with passion and attention to detail. Our client portfolio includes work for luxury resorts, wineries, art galleries and residential homes. All our furniture is designed and made in Christchurch, New Zealand. Nature We make timber furniture beautifully crafted by artisan furniture-makers, to produce contemporary pieces to last generations. We immerse ourselves in our natural environment and take design cues from nature. At Tréology, we don’t design our pieces; nature does that for us. We simply appreciate the natural form of timber and craft it into a contemporary piece to be treasured - now and forever. Created in nature. Crafted by man.

  • Ebb & Flow Modern Organic Credenza Made from River Rescued Ancient Wood
    By Tréology
    Located in Papanui, Christchurch
The Ebb & Flow credenza was inspired by our observations of an ocean worn cliff face on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. Our search for design inspiration took us on an adventure to the Truman Track - a walk through unspoiled subtropical forest where ancient native trees tower above thickets of vine and palms. The track emerges on a spectacular coastline with cliffs, caverns, and a waterfall that plummets straight onto a rock-strewn beach. The Ebb & Flow credenza is our representation of the powerful ocean forces that have shaped the natural landscape of New Zealand. The credenza is made from a matai tree (New Zealand native tree) rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless Tréology tag and attached to the credenza, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature. • Nature Inspired Modern Organic Credenza Made from Sustainable River Rescued Wood
    By Tréology
    Located in Papanui, Christchurch
Awa Kōpaka means glacier in te reo Māori. The Awa Kōpaka credenza was inspired by our observations of the organic forms of the glaciers on the West Coast of New Zealand. The credenza was designed by Richard Simpson during a three-day road trip down the West Coast, as we explored the Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers. Standing at the face of the glaciers we could see this enormous fissure of ice and we could hear it cracking & moving. You could see where it was carved out and the beautiful organic forms on the ice itself. Awa Kōpaka is expressing that form into a functional cabinet. It is a narrative about the movement of ice and how it continues to shape the landscape of New Zealand. The credenza is made from a matai tree rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber...
