Cabinet Credenza Phillip Lloyd Powell and Paul Evans

About the Item

From the early collaboration between two New Hope craftsmen Phillip Lloyd Powell and Paul Evans, came this stunning piece of furniture that epitomizes their individual artistic aesthetics but also an example of their joined efforts to achieve a seamless creation. As a team who shared a studio and a showroom in the 60s, Phillip Powell and Paul Evans created a group of rather limited furniture that were almost all custom order pieces. Originally used as a wall-mount cabinet, this piece was made of American Walnut with Powell's signature carving and chisel technique. It was adorned with lacquered gold leaves on the side panels and trims, a signature detail found mostly in their work in the 60s and is topped with a thick black slate and accessorized with metal hardware by Paul Evans. Green painted interior features felt wrapped shelves, a build-in free edged walnut tray and lighting, all original condition. The base is detachable with black lamination, and it was presumably a later addition when the cabinet was used as a free-standing piece.
