Louis XVI Inlaid Commode attribution from Riesener

About

A central "ressaut" and curved sides commode, opening in front with on two large drawers with no cross bar and three drawers on the belt. Canted shanks. Inlaid wood veneer with rhombuses and flowers and a central composition of fruits and a vase. Rich ornamentation in gilded bronze composed of framing nets, vegetable friezes and hooves. Top of purple marble. Restorations of use and maintenance. Époque 19th century. Measures: H 91, L 171, P 63 cm Jean-Henri Riesener is a French cabinetmaker of German origin (born July 4, 1734 in Gladbeck, Westphalia, and died in Paris on January 6, 1806). Received as master in 1768, he was appointed "ordinary cabinetmaker of the king" in 1774 and, during the years 1769-1784, provides the Court and the royal family, notably Queen Marie Antoinette of Austria, in sumptuous furniture of neoclassical style. He is considered one of the best representatives of the transition style and completed in 1769 the famous secretary cylinder Louis XV, or "Office of the King", started by Oeben nine years earlier.
