Antique European Dome-Top Blanket Chest in Pine with Interior Glove Box
About the Item
A lovely chest in pine with hinged dome-top over a tapered rectangular case with dove-tailed corners and resting on carved slipper feet. Interior offers a small lidded compartment that was used for the storage of gloves and other accoutrements. Originally used to store clothing and blankets, the side handles facilitated its being transported while doubling as a valise. The color of the pine has a light, honey tone. The hardware; the pulls and hinges, are made of forged iron and are original to the piece, Northern Europe, circa 1800.
