Born in Italy during the third quarter of the 19th century, each of this pair of unusual Italian chairs features a curving moon crescent-shaped crest, adorned with the classical figure of the god Mercury. The splat is replaced by a hand carved finial with gilded accents. The oval seat is covered with a new linen upholstery surrounded by a brass nailhead trim, while the ensemble is raised on four saber legs, connected to one another through an X-form cross stretcher.
