A unique first Edition 1999 desk or side chair in cherrywood and leather by Danish Master Craftsmen Rud Thygesen and Niels Roth Andersen
Famous for producing furniture for Danish King Frederik IX in 1970 Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen went on to create collections of furniture that caught everyone’s attention. Showered with prizes for their designs and innovation the two became part of the vanguard of the 2nd generation of great Danish designers of the 20th century. With their designs on permanent exhibition in numerous design museums including the V&A in London and MoMA in New York it would have been easy for the two to continue to design together and settle into a system of development and manufacture - but the two chose instead to strike out on their own and to forge partnerships to enable them to continue to push boundaries.
For Thygesen one such collaboration brought him to the door of Master Carpenter Niels Roth Andersen. Andersen himself was renowned as a Master craftsman and amongst his many accolades had recently been honoured with the continued production of Finn Juhl’s extraordinary Chieftain chair. They produced a number of concepts together one of which was this chair that was shown for the first time 'Snedkernes Efterårsudstilling' in 1999. When looking at the chair it is clear it is handmade by Virtue of the jointing and finishing work and as such is believed to be the only chair of this design in existence. Presented in very good condition the frame is made from cherrywood which is complemented by a mahogany colored leather seat.
A truly unique First Edition this striking, beautifully proportioned and comfortable chair could be used as a desk or dining chair, or as an accent or side chair.
