Scandinavian Biedermeier Recamier / Divan in Light Walnut, circa 1845

About

A Biedermeier Recamier or divan in light walnut with upholstery. Upholstered back starts low, rising to meet the scrolled side. Bronze d'ore ormolu mounts of foliate swags and rosettes decorate the bottom apron, Scandinavia, circa 1845. This Divan has a very special finish that we have perfected at Bonnin Ashley. The various cuts of walnut have been lightened and French-polished in a clear shellac giving the recamier a very fresh, contemporary appearance. It requires many hours of skilled work to achieve this but we feel that it is well worth it to create such an exotic finish that celebrates this beautiful form. Restored in our workshop with French-polish finish and re-upholstered in Lee Jofa cream-colored cotton twill. Measures: 68" long x 24 1/2" deep x 35" high.
