Raj Chair Metal Clad Over Teak Handcrafted in India by Stephanie Odegard

About the Item

The British Raj was the period during which most of the Indian subcontinent, or present-day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar (Burma) were under the colonial authority of the British (1858 – 1947). “Raj” is derived from the Sanskrit 'rajya' (“rule”). Our Raj chair was inspired by a Victorian High Chair used in Colonial India in the mid 1800s, and retains the distinctive mix of English Colonial style and Indian craftsmanship and materials. The strong frame is made of carved teak wood, and the visible parts of the arms and back are then covered in metal skin of copper, white bronze, brass or purest silver silver sheeting. The silver used was assayed at 96% purity, which exceeds the minimum standard for sterling of 92.5%. Raj Chair Size- 25" x 24" x 36"H. Seat Height- 18"H. Materials - Teak, Hand-Carved Please note that moisture in air, sudden change in temperature and natural movement of wood over time causes the metal to wrinkle or bubble up. We use well seasoned, reclaimed teak and high quality marine grade MDF (wherever technically possible) to avoid and delay the above mentioned changes. However a perfect stability of metal cannot be guaranteed. Buyer Cancellation- The cancellation charge is 25% which increases to 50% if the production is started. Prices do not include shipping from India (for custom orders) or our MN warehouse (items from stock). That will be additional.
