Contemporary Chair in Brazilian Hardwood by Ricardo Graham Ferreira

US$2,690per item

About

This contemporary chair is a three legged comfortable and elegant piece of fine crafted furniture, made in tropical Brazilian hardwood and natural ramie cord at the artist workshop. Its uniqueness comes hand in hand with its simplicity and superb craftsmanship. The shape of the backrest is created by a natural ramie cord, the tension of which is generated from a toggle stick that twists the cord under the seat, an elegant, simple and very effective solution. Feet fits tightly on the seat with traditional wedged tenon joints. Wedges are made in precious black or light tropical hardwood. The three legged chair shown are made on freijó wood ( brazilian walnut ) tropical hardwood. Other wood types by request. Chairs are signed and numbered. Ricardo Graham Ferreira is a Brazilian woodworking artist who learned cabinet making in northern Italy and southern France. The traditional woodworking craft was brought by Ricardo to the tropics, in his hometown Rio de Janeiro, where local sustainable forest management and precious reclaimed tropical hardwoods, are hand crafted into original woodworking pieces by this Brazilian artist.

About the Maker

Ricardo Graham Ferreira

Woodworking arrived as a joyful activity to the life of this Brazilian artist, born in Rio de Janeiro. After graduating in Marketing and working with it, Ricardo Graham Ferreira made an important decision in his life and gave him self a chance to learn what he has loved since a little kid: woodworking. In 2002 Ricardo went to Italy. More precisely to the Brianza region. And there stayed for 3 years learning "ebanisteria" in Meda, "the city of furniture making". After that went to the south of France where he obtained a higher degree in woodworking, after one year attending the École Supérieure d'Ébénisterie d’Avignon, a prestigious school located in Provence. His workshop, known as “oEbanista”, was established in 2006, and it's located at Nova Friburgo, a city found on the green mountains of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the beginning Ricardo's works were only made by commission, for direct costumers; but it took new directions as his pieces gained prominence in reputable events, prizes and national and international publications.
