About the Item
Mid-Century Modern pair of high-back reclining chairs in black leather and chromed tubed steel. Made in Switzerland by Strässle International and designed by Hans Eichenberger. Both lounge chairs feature leather seat cushions as well as vertically adjustable leather cushioning that can serve as a headrest or neck support.
Influences of the Bauhaus, particularly Breuer, can be seen in proportions as well as the choice of materials. During his formative years in Paris in 1950-1951, working for the Architecte d'Interieur Marcel Gascoin, Eichenberger received the decisive impetus for sustainable design as well as an insight into the scene around Le Corbusier.
Eichenberger's designs are represented in various collections, including the MoMA New York, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
This set dates to the 1960s and is in excellent original vintage condition with the leather showing a "relaxed" aged appearance, though with minimal signs of wear.
