Bauhaus Armchair Pair in Bentwood, Model A 60F by Thonet-Mundus, Austria, 1929

About the Item

Modernist armchairs pair in Bauhaus style. The large lacquered bentwood armchair appeared in the Thonet-Mundus catalog from 1929 along with a rocking chair, a stool and a table. The appearance hardly suggested that it's made of bented wood and not metal, so high was the desire to keep up with the latest trend. One year before the tubular steel furniture company L. & C. Arnold published in the company catalog an identic design in tubular steel by the Berlin based architect Arthur Korn. The bentwood armchair is a very rare model from the A 60 series, from which numerous stools and a single rocking chair are otherwise known. The armchairs are in original condition, the bentwood frame was subsequently painted over, the fabric cover seems to be from the time. If needed, we can provide a restoration service on request.
