About the Item
“Coconutrug I Glassati” is a contemporary rug by Italian design company G.T.DESIGN, and “Coconutrug” an independent brand of the company since 1998, pioneering coconut fiber for the use of design rugs. Measures: 195x285 cm.
Handmade in top-quality coconut fiber, a naturally hard-wearing and extremely sturdy material, and coated with impermeable resins, “Coconutrug I Glassati” is perfect when a filter is required to protect the floor. It is ideal in modern interiors and in exterior living areas where quality, durable, flooring is needed.
It is hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans trained in the use of coconut fiber, a primary source for the crafting of ordinary utensils such as baskets and ship ropes, fostering antique knowledge of handcrafting and use of natural materials.
Coconut fiber – considered one of the most resistant eco-fibers and known for its optimal properties as thermal and acoustic insulator – is used since antiquity in the naval field due to its capacity to resist mold, water and bacteria, rubbing and breakage.
In a natural white color, “Coconutrug I Glassati” is perfect for adding a design touch to sophisticated summer houses, working well in covered outdoor areas and by the poolside.
This rug is modular and can be joined with other pieces through colored stripes of Velcro. Such feature of the project “Coconutrug I Glassati” is thought for a modern and ‘light’ lifestyle, being easy to disassemble, light to carry and small to keep when not used, as during a seasonal change.

About the designer:
Deanna Comellini is an artist and a designer.
For over 40 years, she has experimented by combining craftsmanship and industrial design while working first on product design and later on textiles. She has developed the notion of ‘imperfect design’, highlighting the minor flaws of materials and handmade products that make them unique and one-of-a-kind. In the 1990s, she focused on the concept of the contemporary rug and natural materials while innovating the industry with a new textile for interior design. In 1977, she founded G.T.DESIGN taking on the role of Creative Director. She participated in prestigious international exhibitions and collaborated with important architectural figures, including Toyo Ito and the Zaha Hadid Architects studio.
In 2022 she has been selected by Forbes as one of the “100 Most Influential Italian Women of the year”.
