Swedish Vintage Handwoven Flat-Weave Wool Rug "Rotundifolia" by Judith Johansson (1916-1993) Size: 77" × 103" (196 cm × 262 cm) Excellent vintage condition consistent with age. A beautiful flat-weave wool rug handmade in Sweden by renowned textile artist Judith Johansson. Signed with woven initials JJ at the corner of the rug. This rare rug celebrates the flower " Rotundifolia", a beautiful and very Swedish spring flower called Harebell. Its colors are blues, pinks, lilacs, beiges and light greens. 100% wool. Made in Sweden in 1978. A piece of Scandinavian modern design to bring an edgy yet subdued feeling to your space. Judith Johansson drew inspiration from nature and was commissioned by the Swedish Royal Family. She never made sketches or notes on-site but had a photographic memory, a strong sense of color, and paid careful attention to the symbolism in the sacred textiles...

Ingegerd Silow (1916-2005) was one of the most prolific and influential Swedish carpet designers of the midcentury. She was part of a second generation of twentieth century Swedish textile designers. As with her other Swedish design-world contemporaries, she would have been made acutely aware of her predecessors while she trained at the Konstfack, Stockholm’s famous art and craft school. Her training in folk craft is evident in her carpets, which are of the highest quality in terms of their impeccable materials and weaving techniques.
