Persian Qashqai Leopard Carpet in Red, Cream, and Grey Wool

US$3,000

About

Hand-knotted in red, cream, grey, brown, green, blue, and gold handspun wool, this Persian Qashqai carpet measures 3’8” x 5’11” and have a distinctive prowling leopard design. Plush, functional, and resilient in quality, the hand-knotted weave naturally produces a soft pile, including a durable foundation without latex or adhesives. The rich colors throughout the carpet’s design are achieved using organic vegetable dyes, preferred for their bright hues and fade-resistant qualities, while many of the neutral tones of the field exhibit the natural undyed colors of the sheep’s wool. Characteristic of classic Persian Qashqai design, the leopard’s form is rustic yet carefully detailed. Its facial expression and stature convey its demeanor as it prowls through the field. Native to southern Iran, the Anatolian leopard, depicted with brown and black spots atop the leopard’s cream body. Among Persian carpets and textiles, leopards symbolize nature and the duality of existence. The carpet’s design simultaneously evokes the ferocity and the romance of nature, as a predator hunts for its prey amid bands of intricate flowers. Two columns composed of flower, butterfly, and caterpillar motifs run across the weft in gold, green, blue, and red hues. Stylized butterflies complete the border, detailed in blue, brown, and cream wool. Measures just under 4’ x 6‘, this carpet are ideal for a bedroom, living room, office, or wherever small to medium-sized area rug is needed.
