20687, vintage Moroccan Zayane rug with Tribal style, colorful Moroccan Berber carpet. With an eye-catching pattern and bold autumn colors, this hand knotted wool vintage Berber Zayane Moroccan draws the viewer in to an alternative reality. It features small double diamond medallions filled with smaller diamonds formed by fused triangles. It is framed by a compartmental border on the vertical sides. The diamond medallions are surrounded by a series composed of cross-hatch, cubes, solid colors and zigzag lines with jagged edges representing protection and meant to capture evil spirits. Smaller diamonds, when housed inside of larger diamonds, is known to predict a pregnancy. The variation of lines unites to create a chevron pattern and two ziggurats extend toward the centre. The chevron pattern has great historical meaning in the history of Moroccan rug-making as a continuation of the range of feminine and reproductive symbolism displayed by Berber carpets.
