GAN Handloom Backstitch Composition Large Rug by Raw-Edges

US$3,530per item

About

Learning about embroidery – GAN’s incredible craft and strength – Raw-Edges found themselves drawn to the aesthetics on its reverse side. The ‘back stitch’ has an unintentional hidden beauty to it, that one might so easily miss. Their aim was to understand the language of this ‘random’ backstitch and develop it into their rug collection. Focusing on color combinations, the rhythm of patterns, the thickness of the yarns, tactility and craftmanship, they also emphasize handmade work over work on the loom and the handmade embroideries. Material: 100% wool.

About the Maker

GAN Rugs

The family business GANDIABLASCO was founded in the 40s by Mr. José Gandía Blasco, now its Honorary President. At the end of the 1980s, his son José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, current President, decides to reinvent the company together with a team managed by Sergio Pastor, General Director. It is at this time that new lines of home textiles are developed, betting big on design and incorporating the world of rugs to the offering. This is how the original GAN was born. In 2004 José decides to start working with Mapi Millet. They are old friends, with similar taste and sensibilities. With the enthusiasm of the whole team, they begin to shape this new brand, GAN, which would bring together the textile productions of GANDIABLASCO under one name and a single proposal. GAN as we know it today is born in 2008 under the direction of Mapi. It is a brand with its own identity, based on products made by hand, and at the same time, essentially close to GANDIABLASCO, in their tireless curiosity to explore new techniques and designs. GAN is craftsmanship and design. GAN is a concept firmly rooted in design and based around handmade products. In GAN, rugs are not merely decorative objects. Instead, they become a system of shapes and volumes that redefine the concept of habitability. What defines and sets GAN apart is our appreciation for products made by hand, gently, piece by piece.
