19th Century Chinese Hand-Knotted Rug Blu Beige with Stylized Spiritual Dragons

About the Item

A rare Chinese carpet from the end of the 19th century, with a refined tone-on-tone geometric decoration that occupies the central field without interruption. At the corners are stylized four dragon figures in one of the most archaic depictions. The border is decorated with a geometric pattern that arises from the succession of swastikas, which has a positive meaning for the Buddhist religion. The iconography of the Chinese carpets is, as for other art forms, a transposition of spiritual values of the Taoist tradition, therefore the meaning of the composition must be sought which, besides the design, is characterized by the colors. In our example the dance of the dragons, veiled in pink, surrounded by the element of the swastika, celebrates and invokes the arrival of fortune.
