19th Century Blue White Medallion with Animals Wool Chinese Rug, circa 1870

About the Item

The animal in the small medallion in the center of this beautiful square Beijing, is a Qilin, it is frequently associated with the cardinal point of the west, instead of the Byakko white tiger, thus becoming one of the four auspicious animals together with the dragon, phoenix and turtle one of the typical chimeras of the Chinese mythological bestiary more than fighting he seems to play happily with the happy that dominates him among graceful clouds.
