Large Vintage Jacques Heim French Silk Scarf with Irish Linen Cushion Pillow

About the Item

Large custom made one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from a rare vintage silk Jacques Heim fashion scarf in a striking turquoise, white and black geometric pattern. Parisian born designer Jacques Heim began as a furrier in the 1920s in his parents' fur business, which they had founded in 1898. From 1930 he ran his own couture house making dresses, coats and as well as designing costumes for film and theatre. He became extremely acclaimed and under the presidency of Charles de Gaulle, was appointed designer of the general's wife, Yvonne. Other prominent clients were Sophia Loren, Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Mamie Eisenhower and actress Gloria Swanson. He was most known for his two-piece swimsuits which were daring for the times, advertising them as "the world's smallest bathing suit!” before the term bikini. In 1956, his version made an international sensation when Brigitte Bardot wore one of his bikini designs. His couture house closed when he passed in 1967. This museum quality example of Jacques Heim was found in the Bastille Marques in Paris and is similar to one exhibited recently in the ‘1950s Fashion’ at the Palais Galliera - Musee de la Mode in Paris, exploring the most prominent names in fashion history. Soft, silky smooth and luxurious, it is beautiful to run ones hand along. Displaying a wonderfully symmetrical pattern, reminiscent of Art Deco style, made up of solid blocks of colors in bold black, dramatic diamond’s of deep tealy turquoise and rich antique gold. On a quality twill silk with beautiful texture and diagonal grain which was delicately hand rolled and hemmed before being carefully unraveled to create our cushion. A blue portion of the scarf bearing his name has been discreetly sewn inside the cover. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful mottled effect. A contemporary cushion (pillow) constructed with antique elements by using fragments of precious fabric. Handcrafted in Ireland by designer-maker Katie Larmour Design Studio color: Blue, turquoise, off-white, black, yellow ochre and antique gold.
