British Art Deco Black Bakelite and Aqua Phenolic "Queen Mary" Ashtray Set

US$1,250per set

About

This set of British Art Deco black Bakelite and aqua phenolic ashtrays represent the third version of an iconic design that was originally produced for the launch of the Cunard Liner, RMS Queen Mary. The first or "Maiden Voyage" design was marked at the end with the words "Queen Mary" in script and then followed by a version in which the ship's name was replaced with the words "Cunard Line" in a similar script. Finally these ashtrays proved so popular that the manufacturer, The British Buttner Pipe Company Limited, began producing versions in different color combinations and with no markings at the end. These three ashtrays are from this edition and in the rare aqua colorway. There are two cigarette size (4.5" long X 4.0" wide X 1.0" high) plus the rare larger cigar size (6.75" long X 5.75" wide X 1.5" high) and they are in great condition overall.
