About
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver, alabaster and lapis lazuli match striker; an addition to our ornamental collection.
This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and alabaster match striker has a globular form.
The surface of the alabaster body has a carved textured finish which composes a match striker.
The body of this antique match striker incorporates four vertical inset lapis lazuli panels.
The upper portion of this antique match striker retains the original, plain hallmarked sterling silver mount.
Alabaster is a mineral / soft rock and has been used through history for carving decorative pieces and artifacts. Between gemologist and archaeologists there is a difference of opinion on the composition of the mineral, from a fine-grained gypsum to a type of calcite; the calcite variation has been traditionally labelled 'onyx-marble' despite being geologically inaccurate.

Diameter 6.2cm/2.4"

Condition:
This antique lapis luzuli match striker mount is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The alabaster and lapis lazuli body is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount are all very clear.
