An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver presentation/champagne cup in the tyg and Art Nouveau style, an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique sterling silver trophy cup has a plain baluster shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The shaped body of this Edwardian tyg style cup is plain and unembellished. This impressive cup is fitted with three C-shaped handles incorporating embossed Art Nouveau style thumbpieces and organic shaped upper terminals. The underside of this presentation/champagne cup bears the retailer's mark 'Thos. Smith & Sons, Edinburgh.' This versatile cup is a substantial size and if required could be used as a wine/bottle cooler, with the use of the three handles, this piece could easily be transferred down a dining table. A tyg is a large English mug/drinking vessel with three or more handles. The mug was made to be shared, and handed round between several drinkers. Condition This antique silver tyg cup is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. The antique sterling silver trophy cup has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup are all very clear. Dimensions Height to top of handle 20.3 cm/8". Width across handles 23 cm/9.1". Diameter of rim 15.6 cm/6.1". Diameter of foot 16.3 cm/6.4". Weight 32.2 troy ounces/1001g. Maker: Atkin Brothers.
