Sitzendorf Germany 13th Station of the Cross Museum Quality Porcelain Scene
About the Item
Very large, handmade and hand painted, museum quality porcelain from Sitzendorf Porcelain Manufactory in Thuringia, Germany depicts one of the most famous religious scenes in all of Christianity, the Thirteenth Station of the Cross. In this scene, two Disciples of Jesus Christ are removing Jesus from the cross and wrapping Him in a linen shroud to give to his Mother, Mary, the Blessed Virgin of God and Mary Magdalen. The other two men are Joseph of Arimathea (the "Secret Disciple") and Nicodemus (a member of the Sanhedrin). Finely detailed and beautifully wrought, this piece combines glazed and unglazed elements, and includes a gold leaf rim around the base.
Signed on the back, “MS", with the blue under glaze hallmark of the Sitzendorf Porcelain Manufactory on the bottom.
Measures: 14.5” wide by 10" deep by 21.5” tall. Weighs 15.5 lbs.
