Antique Folk Art Painted Playing Card Games Box, 1930

About the Item

From an old New England collection. Unique find. An attractive one-of-a-kind antique folk art circa 1930 period hand crafted, hand incised and hand painted playing card games box with raised embellished top adornments: "Jack who is shy" along with a coffee mug and an emblazoned red lacquered fleur-di-lis. Multiple incised effigies of incised and painted playing cards, dice, playing chips, and possibly golf tees adorn all side of this wonderful box. An all original work of art finely hand incised and hand stained using a pyrographic technique. The resulting warm honey brown color of its finish enhances its desirability. The craftsmanship and details are superb. Dimensions: 5.75 inches high and 6.5 inches square Handmade and hand burned using pyrographic techniques Provenance: New England collection. History of the Pyrography: py·rog·ra·phy, a noun, is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. Pyrography was particular popular in America and Europe during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century. We will be offering more important high quality Folk Art and pyrography works of art in the near future. We have been collecting and dealing in authentic American Folk Art and pyrography works of art for more than thirty years.
