Uppark restored by Christopher Rowell and John Martin Robinson. London: National Trust Enterprises Limited, 1996. First edition hardcover with dust jacket, 191 pp. A remarkable book on the restoration process of one of Great Britain's architectural masterpieces. It was built in 1690 for Ford Grey and Lord Grey of Warke, then in 1747 Matthew Fetherstonhaugh bought it and decorated it in the European fashion, including artwork from his Grand Tour. Two centuries later the house was passed to the National Trust virtually untouched. On August 30, 1989 Uppark caught fire and was left in ruin. The book tells the story of the restoration and the work of its fine craftsmen.
