Lindbergh, Anne Morrow. North to the Orient. New York: Harcourt Brace, (1935). Octavo, first edition, original blue cloth, original dust jacket and housed in a custom leather and cloth clamshell. Offered is a first edition of Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s account of her journey to Alaska and along the Arctic Circle to Russia, China and Japan. The book, in its original dust jacket, is inscribed and signed on the half title by Anne Morrow-Lindbergh and Charles A. Lindbergh. The book was published out of New York by Harcourt Brace in 1935. In July of 1931, Anne Morrow Lindbergh took off with her husband, famous pilot Charles Lindbergh, in their aircraft called the Sirius. Their journey was lengthy, extending for over two months. Their voyage took them from College Point, Long Island, to Alaska by way of St. Lawrence Island. They also traveled as far as to Siberia, Kamchatka, and even Japan. The book details the trip as well as insider details into the journey, such as the fact they they discovered a stowaway in the plane. The couple crossed the Yellow Sea to China and went up the Yangtze River to Nanking, where they brought aid to flood refugees. An interesting tale of adventure, this first edition is complete with maps drawn by Charles Lindbergh. CONDITION: Overall very good condition with no severe wear. Some light shelf wear, overall very clean pages. Original dust jacket with protective mylar sleeve. Housed in a custom quarter leather clamshell case with hand-tooled gilding and raised bands on spine. Black and white photograph on front cover.
