President Abraham Lincoln Genuine Bedroom Wallpaper, 19th Century

About the Item

Seven fragments of wallpaper from Abraham Lincoln's bedroom in Springfield, Illinois Before he left for Washington to become sworn-in as President in 1861, Lincoln and his family lived at 413 South Eighth Street in Springfield, the only home the President ever owned. These unique fragments of wallpaper come from Abraham and Mary Lincoln's bedroom in their Springfield home. The Springfield home in which the Lincolns lived was built by Rev. Charles Dresser who married Abraham and Mary in November 1842. Rev. dresser sold the home to Lincoln in 1844 for $1500. In the mid-1850s, the home was raised to a full story residence with the Lincolns' bedroom located at the north of the second floor. Future custodians of the house included Mrs Lincoln's nephew, Albert S. Edwards and his wife Mrs Mary Edwards Brown. These wallpaper fragments were removed and retained by Mary Edwards Brown. In 1956 the relics were sold to Dorothy Kunhardt, daughter of Frederick Hill Meserve. The famous Dorothy Meserve Kunhardt collection of Lincoln memorabilia was sold at auction in 1981. The largest fragment measures approximately 3" x 2½" and the smallest measures approximately 1" x 1". A unique piece of Lincoln memorabilia.

  • King Edward VII Authentic Strand of Hair, 19th Century / 20th Century
    Located in Jersey, GB
Edward VII’s coronation took place in 1901, following the death of his mother Queen Victoria. He was 59 at the time and his reign was short, ending with his death in 1910. This brief period is known as the Edwardian era. This was a time when society underwent a dramatic change, with women and workers agitating for greater self-determination. It was also the end of the great European golden age known as the Belle Époque. The First World War (1914-1918) would drag the continent screaming into the 20th century. This authentic half inch strand of hair is from the head of King Edward VII (it was likely taken when he was the Prince of Wales). A marvellous curio that fits beautifully into any collection of royal memorabilia...
