Pair of Nightstands by Saporiti in Birdseye

About the Item

This stylish and versatile pair of bedside tables are by the iconic firm of Saporiti and date to the 1990s. And with the top shelf being able to be pulled out horizontally or vertically these bedside table work well in a small space. Note: When top shelf is pulled-out horizontally the depth of the piece is 21" overall. Note: When the top shelf is pivoted and pulled-out vertically the depth of the piece is 25.50" overall. At a glance this is not very noticeable. Note: Some wear to the finish of the handles (see images). Note: Scratch in the lacquer finish on one top and swirls from being dusted over time and objects being moved on the top. Only in the lacquer not the wood veneer. Because of the glare of the sun the scratch looks worse than what it is.

"Iconic Mid-Century Modern Fratelli Saporiti Italian bedside dressers, nightstands or chests by Giovanni Offredi, circa 1970s. Made of high gloss birdseye featuring six drawers and two lifting compartments for books, jewelry or valuables. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Since 1950, Saporiti Italia produces some of the most sophisticated and advanced pieces of furniture of the history of Italian design. There is a leit motiv in all the company's creations: each new piece is history in itself. Catching time off balance and anticipating the future are both the Challenge and the vocation of Saporiti Italia. Each item created and constructed by the company is slightly ahead of its time and it is destined to last, both in form and function, until the next era. The company, founded in 1950 by Mr. Sergio Saporiti and still under control of the Saporiti family, has contributed to the creation of milestones in the history of Italian design. During these decades of fast growing economy and fast changing social environment, Saporiti Italia set its particular international and avant-garde style. The first pieces of furniture of the Saporiti of the times were clearly influenced by emerging Scandinavian design, but with a special touch of Italian elegance in the use of finishing and materials. In 1965 Sergio Saporiti started a fruitful and “scientific” collaboration with one of the masters of Italian architecture and design of all times: Alberto Rosselli. Together they created a series of pieces of furniture – the Jumbo chair...
