First on the Moon: A Voyage with Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. by Gene Farmer and Dora Jane Hamblin. First edition book, signed by Buzz Aldrin with its original dust jacket and presented in a custom leather and cloth clamshell. Aldrin's autograph has been tipped into the book. The book was published in 1970 and has Aldrin's autograph tipped onto the endpaper. endpaper. The book includes an epilogue by Arthur C. Clarke with photographs throughout. The book depicts the famous Apollo 11 voyage into space that culminated with July 20th 1969 moon landing, the first manned voyage to the moon's surface. There have been six manned U.S. landings (between 1969 and 1972) and numerous unmanned landings. To date, the United States is the only country to have successfully conducted manned missions to the Moon, with the last departing the lunar surface in December 1972. The book goes into great detail of this feat, from the earliest preparations to the final touchdown back on Planet Earth. Dora Jane Hamblin was a gifted writer who wrote for Life magazine during its heyday. One of her projects, from February 1967 to December 1969, was to cover the cutting-edge U.S. space program from Houston. She conducted interviews with astronauts and their families to gain accurate information for her writing. She also explained the brand new space technology in a comprehensive way for her readers, who were fascinated. This resulted in this book, written with Gene Farmer, that detailed the Apollo 11 Mission. The authors collaborated with the astronauts themselves to produce a true and accurate representation of the Apollo 11 Mission. Published in Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1970. First Edition. CONDITION: Very good condition overall. The dust jacket original and is in very good condition, with only light edgewear and rubbing. The boards and corners are in good shape with some minor denting. The hinges and text binding are tight and strong. Interior pages are very healthy, only minor spotting along outside page edges. Signature is in the front of the book, on a black card, signed in silver pen "Buzz Aldrin" and underlined twice. Book is housed in a gorgeous custom clamshell case. Clamshell is quarter black leather with decorative star gilt tooling, gilt titles, and raised bands to spine. The clamshell's cream cloth front features a photograph of Buzz Aldrin standing on the lunar surface.
