Pair of Late 19th Century Rococo Mirrors

About the Item

This finely carved and gilded pair of mirrors made in Italy in the very late 19th or early part of the 20th century represents the finest ideals in Rococo design. All produced in deeply carved wood with no gesso applied ornamentation the pair are done in a left and right manner and are of large size for this form. Designed to be decorative and rich, the surfaces are completely water gilded creating a deep reflective surface. The mirror plate has a deeply shaped bevel also creating a richer reflective element to the design. Though very ornamented the pair are pierced in many areas making them seem almost alive and undulating while not being overly heavy. The pair also has all wood backs again another sign of distinctive thoughtful craftsmanship.
