About the Item
Rare and remarkable handcrafted Gothic wall mirror.
This stylish antique is what is known as a 'cross mirror' and it is another one of our recent remarkable finds. It does not take a genius to figure out why this antique wall mirror is called a cross mirror, but they are very rare. To have found one as beautifully ornate as this fine specimen more than made our day. With a perfect beveled mirror inside and a naturally patinated guilding all around, we immediately knew we had to have this piece. The striking leafs pattern (in deep relief and all around) is like the icing on the cake of this stylish and impressive antique. The former owner (who is no longer with us), purchased this piece in 1995 at a special Christmas 'sale' at an auction house in Amsterdam. Unlike what most people do, the former owner never removed the label that was used for cataloging this antique mirror at that auction (see image 11). With the beveled mirror being in superb condition also, this antique is both a work of art and a perfectly practical mirror into one. If you already have a place in mind for it then maybe you should be the next custodian for this rare work of Gothic art.
