A very rare Regency convex mirror with a mounted Hippocamp in a truly superb hand-carved gilded original wood frame. This is an extraordinary, beautiful and rare piece of exquisite quality.
The original mercury backed convex period mirror plate is in good condition ,please see detailed photographs. The mirror also has its original backboard and original gilded finish. Normally these have an eagle bird figure, so this is a real treat to have this Greek & Roman figure atop and the quality is really very good. Another sign of the quality is the closeness of the gilded balls or canon shot, naturally this costs more to originally make-the owner who commission this in the 1800s clearly had style and the funds to order the very best.
