Pair of Bronze Accented Chinese Blue & White Garlic Head Vases Mounted as Lamps

About the Item

This pair of vases appear to be of a late 17th or early 18th century date and mounted in European bronze mounts from the late 19th century. The vases are composed of a baluster shaped body with a large garlic head top decorated in ringed sections with flowering vines and arabesques. Each vase shows the hand potting and the artist freeness in painting decoration as each is slightly different. This is typical of late Ming and early Qing dynasty transitional porcelain before the strong imperial inspection seen in later Qing dynasty control of production. The mounts are European in origin and might even have been used from other vases as they are not fully attached but are used to combine all the elements in the process of lamping which was probably done in the early 1920s. We have left all the parts as is but have rewired them using new interior parts and new French silk wrapped wire so that they are ready to use.
