About the Item

A Pair of H57 Boudoir Table Lamps with Flower Finials in Patinated Cast Red Bronze + Hand Blown Glass, by Jordan Mozer (b.1958). Made in Chicago, 2007. Measurements; 17” tall x 5” diameter (43 cm tall x 12.7cm diameter). These blown glass and cast bronze H57 Boudoir lamp were created by the artist in 2007 for the renovation of Manhattan hotel on 57th Street between Lexington and Park Avenue. PROCESS + MATERIALS This boudoir lamp body was created by hand-carving maple wood. Each leg varies slightly by design. The carving was cast in 95% recycled red-bronze, which was then hand polished and bathed in elixirs and flames to patina the metal. Glass was blown by hand for the lamp shade: each piece of glass is unique. The cord is dressed in a shirred "sweater". Wiring is acceptable for commercial use. The apple blossom finial is also composed of recycled red bronze. STORY The lamps were created for Jordan Mozer + Associates, LTd.’s renovation of a 1920’s Hotel on 57th street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue in New York. The building was built as a residence for women in the arts and academia by a fashion designer named Mr. Blum. The property was purchased by Apple Real Estate. The lamp embodies the hotel design themes: the vertical lines of 20’s fashion design; the handmade idiosyncrasy of the building; the apple blossom finial, riffing on the names of the owners (Blum+ Apple). Like other aspects of the design, the lamp was fashioned to take the edge off a neighborhood dominated by commerce with a little eccentric personality.
