About the Item

An Art Deco wall light, designed by David Gueron, signed in the glass with Degué and marked Compiegne France. Frosted glass shade mounted in a silver-colored wrought iron holder. One socket for the E14 light bulb. Dimensions: height 39 cm / 15.35 in, width 19 cm / 7.48 in, depth 14 cm / 5.51 in. The light fixture is in complete working order, but as with all vintage or antique lighting, we would always suggest it is tested and fitted by a qualified electrician. Degué is the artist's signature of glassmaker and industrialist David Guéron, founder and owner of the company Verrerie d'Art Degué in Paris (1926 - 1939). David Guéron, of Turkish origin and a former member of the foreign legion, founded the Cristalleries De Compiègne in the early 1920s. Anxious to expand his business to luxury glassware as a whole, in 1926 he founded a Manufacture Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris: the Verrerie d'Art Degué. He also opened a shop to exhibit his models at 41, rue de Paris. Degué glass was intended for the collections of the few privileged Americans and French who could afford it. These extravagant works were rarely seen outside the homes of such collectors but influenced the taste and fashion of the day thanks to their appearance in exhibitions and magazines of the late 1920s. The great artistic fame of the Degué glass factory has been associated with cooperation with the talented French ceramist Edouard Cazaux since 1928. This famous ceramist is the author of some wonderful molded models. They are very stylized from very thick molded glass to represent strong geometric patterns. In 1936, due to large strikes, the glass factory stopped working. It was officially closed in 1939 during the outbreak of the Second World War. The buildings of the Compiègne factory still exist today
