Aries III.I Wall Sconce in Brushed Brass with Faceted Glass and LED lights
About the Item
Aries was inspired by the artist Olafur Eliasson’s concept and set design for the ballet Tree of Codes where the dancers wore all-black suits highlighted with LEDs. The Brushed Brass stems create a minimal form to position bodies of light topped with faceted glass prisms. The prisms capture and focus the light which move as the prisms are turned and positioned. During the day, sunlight can play through the prisms and in the evening, the fixture refracts a blanket of soft, cloud-like rainbows onto the surrounding environment.
Aries creates a piece where the points of light are the focus, and the structure itself is as minimal as possible all the while creating constellation-like forms that recall the night sky, with its bright and sparkling lights refracted through the glass prisms.

Bec Brittain
Self-taught designer Bec Brittain (b. 1980) grew up surrounded by creative minds: Her mother is an artist, her father had a woodworking business, and her paternal grandparents and step-grandfather were architects.
In 2011, after serving as a design director for Lindsey Adelman, Brittain founded her own studio in Brooklyn and created the SHY light. The piece, whose name derives from the initials of her architect grandmother, Sarah Hitchcock Yerkes, was an immediate success, launching Brittain’s career.
The designer moved her studio to Manhattan in 2016 and opened an adjacent showroom in 2017. She makes all her products in New York with the help of local artisans and fabricators. Her latest project, Aries, which was presented by 1stdibs in a 2018 exhibition during the Salone del Mobile in Milan, is an ode to Olafur Eliasson’s set design for the ballet Tree of Codes.
