Grand Tour Italian Gilt Bronze Pendant Oil Lamp

About the Item

An 1870s Italian Historicist reproduction of a Baroque oil lamp in gilt bronze with winged mermaids and grotesques. Possibly made as a Grand Tour copy of an original lamp from the church of San Sebastiano in Venice. The piece bears the date '1548' in Latin, which is the date at which the Expansion of San Sebastiano was completed. Good overall condition, one wing bent, most of gilding has gone.
