About

Greta Magnusson Grossman 'Cobra' floor lamp in anthracite grey. Designed in 1950 by Grossman, this is an authorized re-edition by GUBI of Denmark who meticulously reproduces her work with scrupulous attention to detail and materials that are faithful to the original specifications. A highly adjustable multipurpose lamp, it's tubular flexible arm can be adjusted in all directions and the shade rotates 360 degrees. The base is covered in powder-coated aluminium and weighted with a cast iron ballast. Price is per item. Available in warm gray, anthracite grey, dusty blue, and vintage red. In-stock lead time 3-4 weeks. Out of stock up to 10 weeks or more. Inventory availability subject to change. CUL, UL Listed. Accommodates 1 X 40W max incandescent (higher with LED) E12 (candelabra base) bulb, 67 inch cloth cord with in-line on/off switch and US wall plug.

About Greta Magnusson-Grossman (Designer)

Designer and architect Greta Magnusson-Grossman first gained fame in her native Sweden, where she established her store and workshop and became the first woman to receive a prize for furniture design from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design. In 1940, she married jazz musician Billy Grossman and moved to Los Angeles.

Upon her arrival in Southern California, she opened the Magnusson-Grossman Studio on Rodeo Drive and rapidly became popular among the Hollywood elite, including Greta Garbo and Gracie Allen. In addition to creating iconic furniture and lighting — like the Grasshopper series for Barker Bros. or the Cobra lamp for Ralph O. Smith — Magnusson-Grossman designed 14 homes in the Los Angeles area inspired by the Case Study Houses. Combining her Scandinavian roots with laid-back West Coast style, she became a notable contributor to California modernism.
