FontanaArte "Luminator" LED Blue or White Metal Floor Lamp by Pietro Chiesa

About the Item

"Luminator" is a floor lamp, coming from the iconic floor lamp originally designed by Pietro Chiesa in 1933, manufactured by FontanaArte, providing an indirect light emission, featuring a body in white or metallic blue painted metal, a black power cable, dimmer and plug. Its lighting source is 30W LED (3000K, CRI>80, Lumen 3000). Dimensions: Ø 12.2", H. 72.4". "Luminator" is one of the first projects Pietro Chiesa, at that time owner of a workshop in Milan specialized in artistic glasswork, created for FontanaArte, where he would later become artistic director alongside Gio' Ponti. As the first indirect light floor lamp, "Luminator" is composed of a thin metal shaft that opens into a cone, inside which there's the light source. As an unique element resting on a circular base, it's a lamp of an almost abstract rigor and purity and is by far one of the most extraordinary pieces designed by Pietro Chiesa. Now available in metallic blue and white with LED light source. As a descendant of an eminent Ticino-based family of artists, Pietro Chiesa opened his own glass making shop in 1921 after working as an apprentice at Giannotti's glassworks. In the early 1920s, he took part in Venice Biennale, Monza Biennale, Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and exhibitions in Cologne and Barcelona. His work combines extreme modernity with outstanding technical ability. His creations include the glass windows of the Trieste Stock Exchange, windows of the Motorship Victoria as well as those of the transatlantic liner Conte di Savoia. In 1932, Pietro Chiesa was asked by Gio' Ponti to assume the artistic direction of the newborn FontanaArte, a role that would enable him to give full expression to his creative flair by designing over a thousand different objects (furniture, tables, lamps, glass windows, objets d'art, etc). Some of these pieces had their place in the history of design and are still produced by FontanaArte today, such as "Fontana" curved table (1932), "Cartoccio vase" (1932) and "Luminator" floor lamp (1933).
