Large Vilhelm Wohlert Satellite Pendants for Louis Poulsen

About the Item

Large Vilhelm Wohlert satellite pendants for Louis Poulsen. The Wohlert pendant light is composed of a hand blown white opal glass shade and brushed steel stem. Wohlert designed the original satellite light in 1959 as a fixture that can suit various sized rooms and have a Minimalist, functional design. This includes easy installation, bulb changes and maintenance. The opening at the bottom of the glass produces direct downward light while a diffused illumination is emitted through the white opal glass. The quality of the glass ensures that the fixture is evenly lit. This listing is for the large authorized re-edition version, price per item. Also available in medium 13.8 in. D X 14.6 in. H and small 11.8 in. D X 12.6 in. H sizes. UL listed. Ships with a white canopy and 12 feet of white PVC power cord. Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) graduated as an architect from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1944. During his career, he held the position of professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1968 until 1986, was an Honorary Member of the same institution, where he was also Deputy CEO in the period 1968–1971. He was also awarded the post of visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, United States, from 1951 through 1953. Vilhelm Wohlert worked on a great many projects, including designing the Louisiana Art Museum in Denmark, and in addition to his work as a building architect, he designed a variety of luminaires in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. These included the Magnum light he designed together with Eleni Birkner in 1995, the Magasin ceiling fitting (1974), Micro (1991), the satellite pendant (1959), and various specially manufactured products.
