A round Mid-Century Modern Italian ceiling chandelier, designed by Pietro Chiesa and produced by Fontana Arte in good condition. Structure made of hand crafted brass and crystal glass with replaced wiring. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1940, Milan, Italy. Measure: Light fixture 21” H Pietro Chiesa was an Italian designer born in 1892 Milan, Italy and passed away in 1948 Paris, France. Chiesa finished his apprenticeship in the studio of the furniture designer, interior decorator Giovan Battista Gianotti in Milan. Chiesa comes from an artistic family, he opened his own glass making studio, Botega di Pietro Chiesa in 1921, Milan. Chiesa concentrated mainly on designing glass, he treated glass like a valuable material. Fontana Arte is an Italian lighting and design company founded in 1931 Milan, Italy. Founded by the two well-known Italian architect and designers Giovanni Ponti and Pietro Chiesa. The company is specialized in elegant lamps and glass furniture. Well-known artists have worked and designed for Fontana Arte, like the famous Italian architect Piero Castiglioni or Franco Raggi. Today Fontana Arte is owned by the Italian Creation Group.

    This Mid-Century chandelier in curved crystal and brass was designed by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte in the 1940s. Produced by Fontana Arte after Pietro Chiesa Italian Art Deco designer Pietro Chiesa was born in Milan in 1892 into a family of artists from Ticino, Switzerland. After his studies at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he completed an apprenticeship at the studio of furniture designer Giovan Battista Giannotti; after gathering enough confidence and experience, Chiesa opened his studio in 1921 under the name of Bottega di Pietro Chiesa. Known above all for his work as a glassmaker, Chiesa presented his work for the first time in 1925 at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. In 1932 his studio became part of Fontana Arte, the legendary Italian manufacturer of lighting and glass objects founded by Gio Ponti and Luigi Fontana. Chiesa becomes the artistic director of the company and over the years has designed numerous models for Fontana Arte, including lamps, windows, tables and artistic furnishing objects.
