About

A finely carved male twin figure, ere Ibeji, Yoruba People, Nigeria, created in the early 20th century. With a tall plaited coiffure, expressive eyes, and extensive wear and polish from native use. Areas of encrusted camwood powder between arms and around feet and remains of "Reckitts" blue (laundry bleach) pigment in coiffure. A tall and striking example at 11 3/4 inches. In very good condition, back of one ear missing, from early in the 20th century.
