19th Century Silk Road Suzani Embroidery

About

This ancient piece was embroidered in the surroundings of the ancient central city of Bokhara, on the Silk Road. Many shades of green were used (sacred color), even the blue. The yarns are dyed with vegetables substances, but the black color was obtained with iron oxide, that corroded the yarn: like in many ancient carpets. Someone tried to fix it some last years, but she has not finished her work. This artefact has something of special, like an unfinished masterpiece. nr. 860.
