Seated "Cat with a Bow" Still Bank, American, circa 1922

About the Item

"Cat with a Bow Seated" cast iron still bank is a difficult bank to acquire and is listed in Andy Moore's "The Penny Bank Book" as #364 and rated a "D" (A to F rarity scale--A most common). It is not to be confused with "Seated Cat with Soft Hair" which is more common ("B" rated) and faces the other way and is painted different colors. "Cat With Bow" was made by the Grey Iron Casting Company, Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania in 1922. It is painted in gold with no other colors (as it should be). This example is in excellent all original condition with no repairs and no repaint, and has the original side screw which is unscrewed to remove the saved coins. There are many reproductions of this particular bank; they are identified by a slightly smaller casting and inferior, newer paint. Also by a "rough" coin slot, and separation at the seams. Note the tight seams on my example (see images). Reproductions are also painted differently. Dimensions 4 3/8" high x 2 7/8" wide at the base, x 1 3/4" deep. Note: After 40 plus years of dealing and collecting toys, I am justly qualified to guarantee and present the authenticity of antique and vintage toys and banks; important considering fakes and reproductions in the marketplace

  • "Cat Boat" Mechanical Toy Penny Bank, American, circa 1968
    By Utexiqual Products
    Located in Incline Village, NV
In near mint and all original condition this vintage mechanical bank appeals to both sailing enthusiasts and bank collectors; perhaps a collector of "cat" memorabelia as well. The theme depicts two sailors riding their boat in full sail. It is quite substantial in both size and weight. To operate, (with the lever pushed all the way in from the left); place a coin vertically above the left arm of the sailor in red; from the right; push the lever all the way in. The sail and Boom hits the sailor, knocking him over as the coin drops into the bank. The other sailor moves forward while manning the tiller. The bank is named "Cat Boat...
