About the Item

A Rare hand shaped club - Rhodesia Africa c.1930 We are proud to offer a rare original hand carved club in the form of a hand, signed G. Tandi a well-respected artist from Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) Africa. This item is rare due its form, condition and carver. This item shows superb craftsmanship across this piece, with great detail, proportion and patina across the wooden surface. A highly collectable and decorative object dated the early part of the 20th Century. Dimensions in inches: 15” H x 4” W x 4” D Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form, light fading and blemishes across the surfaces with a natural missing section at the hand of this carving, the pictures aim to illustrate the condition up close, please review all close up photos and propose questions before purchasing to avoid any disappointment. The History Gabriel Tandi was born in the late 19th Century and originated from Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) Africa. Tandi grew up practicing sculpting small sculptures of items such as frogs, birds and abstracts. Gabriel began to be a full time sculpture in 1910 and based himself in local Art Centers and shops. He found that many foreigners being interested in his work, so he decided to make his roots firm in the trade. G. Tandi’s work became very well-known and respected across most European country, America and Asian countries. He was nominated best creative sculpture at one of Africa’s major Art Centers in the early part of the 20th century. His work is still very desirable across most of Europe, America and Asia. He quotes “I drew most of my inspiration from the divine influence, especially from things I was surrounded by in my village and home town, my work is simple and primitive in form as I only create what I see in its simplest of forms”.
