Lewis Smith 1907-1998 was a self-taught artist from Ohio known for his depictions of women wrestlers, athletes and dancers. He had a lifetime railroad pass and travelled the mid-west documenting what he saw including diners, trains, and what he saw on the roadsides. The women he depicted had a certain sexuality in their animated depiction in exotic attire. This picture is matted but not framed. Lewis Smith is included in several prominent collections of Outsider Art and Art Brut and has been written about in the New York Times.
