"The Death of Innocent" Ink Drawing by Charles Bennefiel

During a period living in New Mexico Charles Benefiel did a series of harrowing drawings that incorporated antiques dolls that he inherited from his grandmother. It was a difficult period for Charles as he was dealing with obsessive compulsive tendencies which contributed to his drawing with repetitive marks or dots of ink to build up his images. He incorporated other elements into his image to render it more autobiographical and reflect his state of mind. The picture was worked on arches paper with tea used to stain the paper to get rid of the white and then coated with varnish. It is signed on reverse and mounted in a shadowbox frame.
